Recurring obstructions
In February of this year, 10 years since getting his J-pouch, my son had his first bowel obstruction. It resulted in emergency surgery to untwist him, clean out adhesions, and fix the mess.
Last week he did a repeat...only 8 months later. Same problem, but this time the surgeon anchored the J-pouch to the intestinal wall, hoping to prevent another torsion just above the pouch.
Will this happen again for my son? Likely. The surgeon's only tip on how to help prevent it: an anti-inflammatory diet... which I've been preaching to my son for years. But "cheating" is just too tempting and so he does frequently.
Mostly just sharing/venting, but I'd also be curious to hear the community's thoughts about/experiences with adhesions causing twisting and obstruction.
Thank you.
