Hey everyone,

I recently decided to get back out there in dating after two years . It's been tough with the pandemic and pelvic floor issues , how has the experience been for you? How long do you usually wait to tell someone you have ibd?

What a great question to field to our community, and I'm sure they've got their opinions. As the caregiver of a young man with UC, I've got my take on the issue but obviously from a different perspective. My advice would be to feel out the situation on a case-by-case basis, meaning that you might feel comfortable with some people right from the get-go so that it feels appropriate to bring it up. But with others, it might not be necessary to discuss until it feels like intimacy is in the works. I'd certainly be curious to see what those living with IBD would suggest.

For me it's been hard staying away from crowded places but also having access to a bathroom, it's made me cut my dates short.

When I was dating, it was right there on my online dating profile that I have Crohn's! I had been burned in the past and I wanted potential dates to know what they were getting into.

But I can also see plenty of reasons to wait until you're ready to disclose.

I also had one or two "first date spots" that I was comfortable with and suggested frequently.
