What have you discovered about drinking alcohol with IBD? I know some people have no issues and other people can't drink anything. What's your experience?

I have an interesting relationship with Alcohol. My family are social drinkers, and I grew up around alcohol, however I personally have never partook. I am on parenteral nutrition to make up for the malabsorption issues that come with Short Bowel Syndrome, and therefore the side effects of alcohol on my liver could be more damaging than for most.
I don't have many issues not drinking, my friends like it because I am always happy to be designated driver! Sometimes I feel a little out of the loop, but for me it isn't worth the risk. Happy to hear any other takes though :)

@celiafairbanks05 So nice to see you here. And I like your attitude about not drinking alocohol but still enjoying time with your friends who do drink. My adult son with UC recently abandoned alcohol by forced choice (you may read between the lines on that one), and I'm pretty sure he doesn't miss it, especially because his new group of friends are all in the same boat. :-)

Alcohol (at least most forms of it) is a killer for me. I haven't had hard alcohol, beer, or frankly other than a bit of wine or a hard cider in well over a dozen years. Though it's currently the most widely accepted social drug, I do my best to stay away from the booze.
